PRE-DEGREE
The Pre-degree Programs of UNILAG is a full-time one-year pre-matriculation training, consisting of Science and Management programs designed to prepare students for various degree programs of the University of Lagos. The Program also prepares students indirectly for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB-UTME).
Pre-Degree Program is an intensive coaching curriculum to prepare secondary school graduates for university. The courses of study which are those of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subjects include English Language which is compulsory for all students. Students are required to choose three subjects in addition to English. The curriculum is structured into contact periods, mostly 2, each of around 18 weeks with hours per week for each subject. There is a break between contact periods and one or two weeks of examination at the end of each contact period
The requirements for admission into the Pre-degree programs are credits in Senior Secondary School Certificate/General Certificate of Education (SSCE/GCE), National Examination Council (NECO), Ordinary Level Examination (in not more than two sittings) in Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, or Agricultural Science and Physics (for Science Students) and Economics and any two of Geography, Government, Commerce and Financial Account (for management Science students).
The Institute also runs a JAMB/UTME tutorials and teaching which is compulsory for Pre-degree Program students seeking admission into degree programs of the University. The tutorials and teachings are used to prepare the students for the JAMB/UTME and the Institute has achieved a lot through this initiative. From records, there have been a very high percentage of the Pre-degree students passing JAMB/UTME and the Post UTME into the University since the Program was introduced.
